Here’s what Microsoft’s optional update KB5060829 brings to Windows 11 (Build 26100.4482), currently rolling out in the Release Preview channel:
🆕 Major improvements and new features

- Adaptive icon sizing: Automatically shrinks app icons when the taskbar fills up (you can set this to Always, Never, or When full).
- Better accessibility cues: More visible status indicators (“pill”) under active apps, and added text descriptions for Narrator, Voice access, etc. in Quick Settings.
- Bug fixes: improved behavior for media controls, WIN+CTRL+Number, and click zones in quick settings.
📁 File Explorer & Search
- Faster archive handling: Noticeably improved speed when extracting large .7z/.rar files and copy-pasting many files .
- Snappier Windows Search: Search box loads much faster—no more 10+ second delays—and typing issues are resolved .

- Web link previews: Visual previews now appear when sharing links/web content .
- Image compression options: Choose between High, Medium, or Low quality instead of a numeric scale .
💻 PC Migration (Preview)
- A new “PC-to-PC migration” experience is starting to show up in the Windows Backup app, with initial screens for pairing devices. The full data-transfer experience during setup will arrive in a future release .

- Screen Curtain: Hide on-screen content while Narrator reads aloud—ideal for privacy in public settings .
- Feature walkthroughs: Narrator now guides users through its new features .
- Voice Access enhancements: Added Simplified and Traditional Chinese support and ability to add custom words.
🌐 App defaults (EEA)
- In Europe, selecting a default browser now also sets additional file types (like ftp, svg, .mht), auto-pins the app to Start/taskbar (unless unchecked), and includes a one-click PDF-default button.
🛠️ Other notable fixes and under-the-hood improvements
- Copilot reliability: Resolved issues with the Copilot key and restarting Copilot.
- Storage Spaces Direct (S2D): Prevent system slowdowns during complex workflows.
- Language/storage cleanup: Ensures unused language packs and Feature-on-Demand packages are properly removed, freeing up space.
